Hi there
Thanks for your question regarding your 1 year old boy Marlee who has weepy eyes!
There are a number of possible underlying causes for this ranging from conjunctivitis
to an ulcer on one or both of the eyes
to something beneath the eyelids (like a grass seed foreign body for example)
Given the nature of the discharge - this is most likely just conjunctivitis
If this has been ongoing - he could have an underlying herpes viral infection
It is likely he will need some antibiotic eye drops from your Vet
However - if you want to try something from home first to see if you can get his problem to improve - you can use cold black tea
Make some black tea and allow it to cool. You can then use this on cotton wool to gently wipe the eyes 3 - 4 x daily
The tanins in the tea will help settle any mild inflammation present. If the eyes are quite badly inflammed and discharging it is unlikely to make much of a difference in which case you will need to get him to your Vet
Likewise - if you try it and there is no change within 3 - 4 days or the problem worsens, do get Marlee straight down to your vet for a full eye exam.
Best of luck with Marlee and please reply if you have any further questions.

Kind Regards,

Do you have any further questions?
My thoughts were conjunctivitis , The blk tea remedy is good advice. I have some ophthalmlic gentamicin sulfate would that be okay to use?
I would just recommend the black tea for a start
If there is no change - then get your vet to examine his eyes first before trying an antibiotic drop
And stick with veterinary products only ideally!
Best of luck with Marlee and hopefully this settles soon!
Thank you Dr Edwards I will brew some tea now! Marlee probrably will not thank you until it is all over.
haha - good luck. Hopefully he lets you gently wipe his eyes with the cotton wool!
