Are you talking about wild finches or tame finches? I find thistle seed is often a favorite, as are small sunflower seeds.

Hello. Finches should not have sunflower seeds. They are much too high in fat. I'm going to assume you are asking about pet Finches. No matter which type you may have, the diet basics are all the same. They need equal parts; white millet, Japanese millet, panicum millet and plain canary seed. However, an all seed diet is not sufficient to maintain good health. They also enjoy grated fresh foods such as sprouts, carrots, broccoli and an occasional piece of apple. Be careful with the wet foods and don't leave in the cage more than a couple hours. It can quickly grow bacteria which will be harmful for them. I'm going to give you a couple links to some more information about Finches. I hope this is helpful to you. If you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask. Patricia
