everything in life has a purpose and they are something elses dinner. what eats fleas?

It depends on what stage they are at and what animal they are on.
Flea eggs and larvae may be eaten by special nematodes (worms) that are parasites to them.
Other insects will eat them when they are not on a host animal.
Birds pick fleas and other insects off larger hosts like elephants and rhinos.
Cats and dogs swallow fleas they catch in their fur completing the tapeworms life cycle when they do that.
