This is not altogether uncommon. To have this be a true diagnoses would require xrays and so forth...but I will give my opinion.
Dogs can have joint laxity, especially in the carpal region (the wrist) and toes and you can sometimes hear a popping noise...much like people who crack their knuckles. It is believed to be from air bubbles in the joint fluid...and is "harmless".
Some out grow this, some don't. So at this point you can have it worked up with xrays or you can watch the situation.
If at any time lameness is evident, I would take him in.
