Customer Question

A friend took some of our sliders, our smal pond had too many, and put them in their large pond with other turtles and KOI. They called and said one has white patches (possible fungus infection).

The pond is large and the turtle can not be caught. Anyway to treat?

Hello,

This is a tough situation since the turtle cannot be caught to treat individually. In order to treat the turtle, we will have to use something safe for the whole pond which includes the Kio and the turtles.

Ideally if they can catch the turtle, they can use a Diluted Betadine and water solution and Dry Dock the turtle for a few days.

If that is impossible, we can treat the whole pond, with some Melafix which is a good medication that will not hurt the Koi, as it is used for them as well as it is safe for the turtles. You can read about the product for ponds here: http://www.webbsonline.com/catalog/meds/

Some pond salt may also help with with the problem they are seeing and can be safely used in the Koi pond and with turtles. This is some information on Pond Salt:

http://www.fishpondinfo.com/fishcare/salt.htm

Hopefully the Melafix and Pond Salt should help resolve the problem with the turtle.

Hi Deborah,

I'm just following up on our conversation about your pet. How is everything going?

Thank you. They are treating the pond as a whole. I gave their groundsman your reply. They were able to catch one, so far, and are treating per your instructions.

I hope I have "clicked" what I need to for your compensation.

Thank you again, Deborah
