Customer Question

My desert tortoise ( 6-7 years old) has a small (1/16th) inch puncture on the right side base of the neck, about a 16th inch deep. It has dried, but there was some blood signs present. Probably got this from a spurred tortoise disagreement.

Can I put anything on this to reduce infection chances? Neosporin?

Hello,

I am so sorry to hear about Davidson. Puncture wounds can seal up with infection tapped inside. I suggest some warm compresses to keep this open on top so it can heal from the inside out.

What you will want to do one you use the warm compresses. the next step is to take a diluted Betadine and water solution and clean the area. After that you can use the Neosporinin the puncture wound. This should help aid with the healing.

If you notice it becoming puffy, you may be looing at an abscess. At that point, I would het the tortoise into the Herp Vet for an antibiotic.

If you need a Herp Vet for Davidson, please hit reply and I can locate one with a State.
