Customer Question

She had 1 200mg ibuprofen, she's a large collie about 69 lbs
JA: I'll do all I can to help. What seems to be the problem with the collie?
Customer: She seems ok but reading on the internet about ibuprofen I'm scared
JA: Where does the collie seem to hurt?
Customer: befoe this it seemed like she had hurt her back leg
JA: Have you looked to see if there is a wound on their foot?
Customer: She took the pill 1 hours ago and seems ok
JA: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about the collie?
Customer: Yes it's a pulled muscle, but I'm more concerned about the ibuprofen

Hello, JACustomer. I have been a Veterinary Nurse for over 15 years and would be happy to help you today. I'm reviewing your question right now.

Good news: she has not consumed a toxic dose. We typically see the beginning GI signs after an ibuprofen ingestion around 25mg/kg which would be 800mg of ibuprofen for a dog her size. Chances are with a consumption this low, she should not show any signs of concern. If you do witness any changes in her behavior, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. you'll want to have her examined by your vet.
