She plays non stop & will not eat which is resulting in her being very underweight
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. Strange behavior is often perplexing. I'm sure the Veterinarian can help you. What is the dog's name and age?
Customer: Her name is Polly & she'17 months
JA: How old is Polly?
Customer: 17 months
JA: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Polly?

Hello, JACustomer. I have been a Veterinary Nurse for over 15 years and would be happy to help you today. I'm reviewing your question right now.

Expert:  PitRottMommy replied 6 months ago.

1) Does Polly have playmates?
2) Where have you tried feeding her?
3) Where does she stay at night? Is her food provided at that time?
4) Do you free feed or feed meals?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
She has my cats & until recently she had another dog to play with. She is fed in the kitchen. She sleeps with me & she always has food available to her
I free feed her as my vet told me to because she is so underweight
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
No I can't afford to call you

Thank you for the additional information. Have you tried switching her food? If so, what varieties have been tried?

Have any supplemental meals been tried such as whole canned food or satin balls?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I have tried both

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
It's her hyperactivity that is the problem. She doesn't stop from 5 in the morning to 10 at night. She never rests

I understand that. However, she must eat a suitable number of calories to be able to even maintain her weight, too. This needs to be addressed from more than one direction.

1) Has your vet given any thought to prescribing a mild sedative for her?
2) Does she have any play dates where she can burn off energy at a higher rate?
3) Does she have any structured exercise or is she just allowed to play to her heart's content?
