Regardless, I the staff at TSC - Vet. supply store said Penicillin should work
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 10 months ago.

Is Ted an intact or neutered male, please? Hematuria (blood in the urine) in an intact male most often indicates acute prostatitis. In a neutered male, urinary tract infection (UTI) +/- urinary calculi (stones) need to be considered. A coagulopathy (problem clotting blood) isn't likely but remains a consideration.

Penicillin isn't a good choice for either prostatitis or a UTI. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.

Thank you. Does he appear to have difficulty urinating (dysuria)?
