Customer Question

My dog drags his butt and his tail cocks to the left but wags fine

Hello,

I am sorry to hear about this concern for Delta.

If dragging the butt, this is often due to issues like:

1. Impacted or infected anal glands (anal sacculitis)

2. Food allergies

3. Intestinal parasites

Anal gland issues are quite frequent. So, this is well worth a veterinary examination and getting the anal glands checked. If impacted, a anal gland expression can resolve the problem. Depending on what is expressed or if blood is seen, can help the vet to determine if any other therapy like a course of oral antibiotics and/or anti-inflammatory medication is necessary.

There are youtube videos about doing "external" anal gland expressions at home or what a groomer does. I strongly recommend against doing a anal gland expression at home, as the technique is very important to do it correctly and avoid causing trauma.

HOpe that information helps
