Customer Question

My dogs were at a dog park in Florida on Monday and both came down with diarrhea on Thursday. Could this be related?

Hello, thank you for using this site to help you with your problem. My name is ***** ***** I have been in the dog field for 25 years .

Was there a water source that they were all drinking out of?

Is diarrhea the only thing you are seeing?

Has there been any change in food or treats?

Are they up to date on worming?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
they are up to date. I brought my own water along...

No change in food or treats

Thank you. Dogs can pick up parasites and protazoa from dog parks which can be found in the ground or any puddles. These can cause diarrhea.

Expert:  Sally G. replied 1 year ago.

Parasites such as whipworm can last in the soil for years so if another dog had that, and your dogs licked their paws then can contract that

Will it eventually go away, or do I need medication
Expert:  Sally G. replied 1 year ago.

you may also be looking at a virus , however these usually only last 48 hours. It is likely that your vet will give an anti diarrhea medication and may want a stool sample for testing so even if your dogs begin going normally again I would bring a sample for testing

If it is a parasite or protazoa it needs to be treated

If it is something like whipworm, they you are looking at it then being in your soil at home for a long time which will reinfect your dogs. For this you would need to keep them on interceptor all year long
