My dog 5 year female pointer pit bull greyhound mix started limping and will not bare weight on front paw. We have another 7 month old min pin ( new addition) and they run and fight all day... I am thinking she pulled or strained a muscle

Hello and Thank you for using this site to help you.

It is very possible that she strained a muscle and this would take about a week to get over with rest. If you have an Rimadyl for her you can give her that, if not you can give buffered aspirin, but only for a couple of days because it can cause ulcers. Do not use Ibuprofen or Tylenol products as these can be toxic to dogs.

Try to keep her from playing and rough housing.

Other problems that will show non use of a front leg is a disc issue in the neck , elbow dysplasia, a tick borne disease such as lymes, or something stuck in the paw. Be sure to check her paw bottom over pretty well.

If after a few days you are not seeing any improvement it would be a good idea to visit your vet so you can get a safer anti inflammatory drug for pain/ .
