Customer Question

Two questions...need heartworm pills for my dog. My husband lost his job 9 weeks ago and my house burnt down 17 weeks ago Thursday. Our prescription ran out last month for heartworm pills and to take the dog to the vet just to get another script will cost me $250. Any suggestions as I have hit hard times and cannot afford the visit but I can afford the pills?
Secondly, what are the symptoms of congestive heart failure in a dog? Our dog has been very healthy his whole life. He is an inside dog and when he has to go out someone is with him and he is on a leash so he doesn't get into stuff.

Hello and welcome. The original expert you asked for is no longer here. My name is ***** ***** I have been working with dogs for 25 years.

I am sorry that you are having this issue. One suggestion is to buy one pill a month rather than the six or 12 packs, your vet will understand this.

There are also organizations that may be able to help you with vet care and I will put a link below for these. Also call your ASPCA or local shelter and ask if they know of a vet that works on a sliding scale. This means that the vet will examine your dog going on what your income might be.

Coughing is a big sign of a heart problem, generally it is a dry cough and often comes with exercise. Passing out is another sign, heaving breathing after movement. I will put a link here for you to review on this.
