My yorkie puppy has had a bloated stomach last several

Customer Question

My yorkie puppy has had a bloated stomach for the last several hours? I'm just curious if anything is wrong.. She ate a lot this morning so I don't know if that's the cause. She still seems playful and mischievous, I'm just concerned.

Hello,

Yes, I am a bit concerned.

A pet really should never have the appearance of a bloated belly, even if they ate alot, and certainly not if that meal was several hours ago.

The appearance of a bloated belly could be caused by:
1. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=672 (stomach bloat)

2. http://www.petplace.com/dogs/ascites-in-dogs/page1.aspx (ascites, fluid in the belly)
3. Worms
4. Organomegaly (Enlargement of the Spleen, Liver)
5. Tumor in the abdomen

So, I do feel this is well worth a vet visit, especially if the bloated appearance gets worse, or you begin to observe any other signs of concern like excessive panting, drooling, labored breathing, or trying to vomit.

Good Luck!

Dr. Andy
