I need to sedate my dog so I can

Customer Question

.I need to sedate my dog so I can trim his matted hair. I used to be able to use a dremel on his nails, but don't think he would allow it now. He is 8 years old and has arthritis in his hind feet. Kate

Hello Kate, You may want to try Benadryl allergy pills as this will relax a dog. You can also try Melatonin as this also relaxes dogs.
Benadryl is dosed at 1 to 2 mg per pound of body weight.
Sometimes putting a dog on a table top helps as well and keeps them from moving around.

You can also ask your vet to prescribe a tranquilizer just for the day of grooming.
