Is essential oil blend dog shampoo safe for a dog who has had

This answer was rated:

Is essential oil blend dog shampoo safe for a dog who has had an seizure in the past? Shampoo includes coconut oil, olive oil, jojoba oil, veg gum/glycerine extract, aloe extract, yucca extract, peppermint extract, lavendar extract, tea tree oil, bergamont extract, geranium extract, patchouli extract, sandlewood extract and rosemary extract. Is the tea tree oil a concern? She weighs 11 lbs.
Hi,

Welcome to Just Answer. Tea tree oil is very potent, and dogs that have seizures are more sensitive to things like this. There is also anecdotal evidence of it actually causing seizures. So, in short, I would so don't use this shampoo on your dog. Here is a page about toxic essential oils:

In this situation sticking with a more conventional type shampoo would be a safer bet. Something mild, hypoallergenic, and possibly oatmeal based would be a good idea.

If you have further questions let me know.

Thanks,
Lynn
