Hello, thanks for your question today! I am Dr. Drew, and I am a licensed veterinarian. I'll be happy to help you in any way I can.
HCTZ is not nearly as effective as Lasix,
and truth be told, Lasix is the cornerstone of management of CHF, so a patient with confirmed CHF should never be expected to do well without this drug.
WHen HCTZ is dosed in dogs,
the usual range is 1-4mg per kg of body weight, every 12 hours.
a 5 pound dog (approximately 2.2kg), would therefore receive 2.2-8.8mg
so, the maximum dose would be roughly 1/3 of a 25mg tablet of HCTZ.
1/4 tablet would be in the middle of the acceptable dosing range.
