You say she has vomited before. Did she just get better on her own?
Sorry, did HE just get better on his own?
Many things can cause vomiting and diarrhea: eating something that was irritating, virus, parasites, pancreatitis, inflammation of the intestines.
Do his gums look pink in color?
If Ozzy is vomiting, and having diarrhea for long, he could become dehydrated. If he vomits to the point of not being able to hold down food and water, then he could become worse with dehydration.
So unless he is vomiting a lot, I would try to encourage him to drink water, or broth.
I would not try to feed him until he goes a few hours without vomiting.
If the vomiting stops, but the diarrhea continues, you could then try a bland diet, like rice and boiled chicken, and you could try an over the counter diarrhea medicine like Imodium or Pepto Bismal.
How much does he weigh?
I can give you a dosage if you tell me his weight.
I don't know he is pretty trim I'll weigh him next time he is awake he is average for his breed of dog `i would say
So probably less than 20 pounds, around 15?
yes that sounds right
The dose of Imodium would be 1/2 tablet, twice daily. If you try Pepto, it would be 1 to 2 teaspoons, twice daily. Pepto will turn the stools black in color, do not be alarmed if this happens.
If he continues to vomit, and not be able to keep liquids down, then he may need to see a veterinarian, for supplemental fluids.
thank you. I am in the uk so not sure if I can get those products here but will try
But if he just vomited because he ate grass, then try offering liquids and see how he does. If his gums remain a normal bright pink, that is a good sign.
The generic name for Imodium is loperamide. He would take .5 milligrams.
Pepto Bismal is bismuth subsalicylate.
ok thats good advice I'll have a look
