Welcome! I would be happy to assist you. I am a 2003 graduate from UC Davis and a Medical Director of a veterinarian practice.

Hello,
Sampson is quite ill. For a little Yorkie, you are going to want to get into a vet much sooner than later for supportive care. Even if trying to supplement fluids, he many still dehydrate quickly and lose body weight.

To help settle the stomach you could give a 1/4 tablet of Pepcid A.C. 10mg antacid, or a ½ tsp of pepto-bismol.

Vet version? Nope. You can give a dog pedialyte or gatorade.

The above website will give you a rough idea about how much water a pet should normally consume total in a day.

My primary concerns for causes of illness include:

- Dietary indiscretion (eating something you do not know about)
- Stomach or intestinal foreign body
- Something that was given to them (new food, new treat, human food)
- Intestinal parasitism (not just the worms, but the microscopic bugs like Giardia and Coccidia). They can cause vomiting also, not just diarrhea
- Toxin exposure would be less likely, unless you have reason to suspect exposure to a chemical.
- Less commonly, endocrine diseases like Addison’s

Hope that info helps
Good Luck
Dr. Andy

If I may be of any further assistance in the future, please let me know. I was uncertain if my advice was helpful or informative without feedback?

good advice pedialyte did the trick. gave 5 ml q30 min and by 4pm he was jumping around eating the cat's dinner. we are watching him closely to keep him away from "kittycicles" as that is the only foreign substance we believe he might have gotten into. thank you
