my 1 1/2 year labx has been retching and vomiting clear and frothy white phlem. he was vaccinated for bordatella nasal inhaled type last week. this weekend we havebeen at the lake where he was swimming a bit and at times running through the bush. he still seems hungry and ate most of his meals. it has been 24 hrs since it started and he continues to leave patches of bile/phlem after coughing. his breathing seems normal but is not his peppy self.

Hello,I am sorry to hear Quincy is having some trouble. I would love to help I just have a few questions so I can better assist you. Please understand I try to ask all relevant questions at one time, however your reply may prompt a few more. Since I am unable to see your pet I must rely on information.Has Quincy been around other dogs such as at the lake or dog parks recently? Is this a honking cough?
yes he goes to the dog park sometimes, his cough may be considered honking but he does not cough steadily
Thank you for the additional information .It is very possible that you are dealing with a case of kennel cough even though recently vaccinated. This can have an incubation period of 7-10 days so he may have been exposed before the vaccine or even at the vets office. It is very common to see them coughing up phlegm with kennel cough as well. Click here for more on this Other possible causes of coughing are * Bronchitis* Intestinal parasitesYou can try a few days of at home treatment as long as he continues to eat. THis is dosed at 1 teaspoon per 20lbs of body weight every 6 hours. Click here for more on this If the coughing continues with at home treatment he becomes lethargic or stops eating then he should be seen by a vet.I hope this helps, please reply back if you have additional questions or concerns.
