Our 1-2 year old (approximate age) chihuahua that we adopted from a rescue about 3 months ago has appeared to have lost a little hair on her chest and someone told me about Chihuahua Pattern Baldness. When this was discovered, she had been with a different caregiver for 5 days while we were on vacation. Do chihuahuas get stressed away from their family and could that have caused this hair loss? Other than this, she's a loving dog that is spoiled by the family :)

Hi Jacustomer-6v38czmn~
In spite of being a big dog in a tiny dog body, Chihuahuas can be very anxious and upset when they are seperated from their family and from their routine. If your little guy had normal fur before you left, then it is absolutely possible that the hair loss you see now is due to the stress of being with a sitter while you were on vacation. If that's the case, then you should see the hair come back now that you're home.
That being said, if he seems itchy or uncomfortable, or if you notice any lumps or rash on the area, then you should have your vet take a peek, just to be safe, but I suspect it's all stress related from you being on vacation.
As for being spoiled...I would know NOTHING about that...as my Maltipoo sits on the couch next to me with his head on my lap...lol
I hope this helps!!
What causes chihuahua pattern baldness?
Hi again~
Chihuahua baldness can happen due to several different things, from genetic predisposition for alopecia (the technical word for baldness) to blowing the coat (excessive shedding) from stress (which isn't a chihuahua specific thing actually...most dog breeds shed heavily when nervous).
There's a great site that talks about it here:

thank you.
You are very welcome!!
