Hi Sir or Madam,

My name is XXXXX XXXXX X've been a professional answering questions concerning dog health and behavioral issues here since 2006. I've professionally worked with animals for over 16 years. Over 13,000 of my answers have been accepted by customers. It will be my pleasure to work with you.

.

Shaker dog syndrome can require more than one round of treatment and it can be an ongoing issue. Treatment is usually prednisone and that is tapered off. This usually takes care of the problem, but some dogs do have relapse and that may be what you are seeing. You can read more on this here:

http://www.vetstream.com/canis/Content/Disease/dis02538.asp

.

However, usually tremors are worse when excited or under stress and you indicate that your dog trembles when she goes to sleep. I have to wonder if there is a different cause for your dog's trembling.

.

Shaking or trembling in toy breeds at a young age could be due to hypoglycemia, liver shunt, or a neurologic response such as a seizure. Trembling can also be a sign of pain, stress and cold.

.

Hypoglycemia is low blood sugar and frequently causing trembling in small breeds. Feeding your dog smaller meals more frequently can help. If you suspect your dog is having low blood sugar you can put a drop of pancake syrup on your dog's tongue which should raise the level.

.

A liver shunt is usually a genetic condition. It is a condition where instead of the blood going through the liver and being cleansed, part of the blood is diverted around the liver resulting in a toxic buildup in the blood. You can read about these here: http://www.malteseonly.com/shunt2.html

.

Seizures can manifest as trembling and a dog may not lose conscienceness. You can read more about seizures here: http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_seizure_disorder.html

.

I'd go ahead and schedule an appointment with your vet and see about bloodwork to check organ function and discuss the possibility of a relapse.

.

Hope this helps.

.

What medication is she currently on?
