My 9 year old Lab has recently started scratching the floor in his sleep... the way he scratches during good petting. Is this normal?
Optional Information: Type of Animal: Labrador Retriever Pet's Gender: Male Pet's Age: 9 Already Tried: checking for fleas... not a real issue.

Hello
It can be.
But:
If it persists, gets worse, turns into scratching himself or chewing/licking feet a lot, or any other awkward behaviors like circling, seeming disoriented or barking a lot, that I would be suspicious for a problem.
I mention the above because it could still be indicative of underlying environmental or food allergies, or even a behavior seen with dogs that have cognitive dysfuction (like being senile).
No clear indication to do anything yet, but well worth observation.
Hope that info helps
Dr. Andy
