Hello
This is serious.
Even if you were to give an antibiotic, it would not immediately help.
Coughing, gagging, etc...at this age can be life threatening. Why?
Well, the rule-outs for possible causes include conditions like:
- A upper respiratory infection (bacterial and/or viral)
- Asthma
- Bronchitis (caused by infection or allergies)
- Heart disease (an enlarged heart will apply pressure on the lungs)
- Pneumonia
- Heartworm disease
- cancer
Without question, if exhibiting any immediate breathing issue right now like:
- excessive panting- gagging every few minutes
you can't wait. ER visit tonight.
She also has an open sore on left side of her cheeck
Understood, but not believe related to the gagging
Truly wish i could do more, but best answer I can provide is to inform you of potential issues and what I would do.
those are her symptoms
excesive panting, gaging every few minutes like you mentioned right now
Off to the ER is my recommendation:
go take her to the er?

vet said she has a tumor on bottom gum,ear infection, absist on left cheek caused ,by bad tooth,
Thank you for update. Sorry to hear about the combination of problems. I hope everything can work out okay. Dr. Andy
could it be a thyroid problem by the throat
Unlikely related to thyroid. As best guess. If anything we see more hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone) problems. Not thyroid cancer or mass/tumors of thyroid.Dr. Andy
the blood work looked normal expect the thyroid.
If it was low, then you would need to request your vet to run a additional thyroid test called a T4 by E.D. A regular thyroid test can be falsely low when sampled if a pet is sick. So, we run this extra test to confirm if they are truly low thyroid and need supplementation. vet said she could have a heart attack, and couldn't remove tumor on bottom gum .
Well, cats really don't have heart attacks. They can have strokes, where they throw a blood clot somewhere in the body. If vet can't remove tumor, then they should refer you to a surgical specialist to see if they can remove it!Find a Surgical SpecialistDr. Andy---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If there is something I have not covered for you, please let me know. I am sorry to hear about the tumor. At this time, there is nothing else I can think of adding to my answer because of the difficulty of the case, other than consulting a specialist for a second opinion. Dr. Andy
