Resolved Question:

my dogs nail has grown into her paw pad. I have cut the nail, but the pad is swollen. She is still eating and walking okay. Should I continue soaking and using Betatine and antibiotic cream or does she need the vet?

This is something we see fairly commonly. The paw pad will be swollen for a few days until the inflammation goes down. Typically it will go down over 3-5 days.

I would continue to soak it 1-2 times daily in a dilute hand soap (or Betadine) + warm water solution. You can then dry it and apply a topical antibiotic like Neosporin to any red areas.

If the entire foot or multiple pads start swelling, then I would get her seen and started on an antibiotic. This is not likely to be a problem.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

should I wrap the paw?

No, I would not wrap it- you want the air to get to it and for her to walk on it.
