Can I give my 7lb Chihuahua a baby aspirin?
Optional Information: Pet's Sex: Female Pet's Age: 4
Hello. Aspirin is the only safe over the counter pain med in dogs as long as she is not on any other steroids or anti-inflammatory meds (like Rimadyl, Metacam, Deramaxx). The dose of Aspirin is 5 mg per lb every 12-24 hours as needed. In a 7 lb dog, you can give 1/2 of a buffered baby aspirin as they are 81 mg. I hope this helps.
Do I just cut the buffered baby aspirin in half?
Yes.
One last question what quantity of Benedryl is safe to give a 7lb chihuahua?
The Benadryl dose in dogs is 1-2 mg per lb every 6-8 hours. In a 7 lb dog, you could pick up the children's liquid and give 1/2 teaspoon.
