Strongid, which is pyrantel pamoate, is usually at a concentration of 50 mg/ml. In our practice, we dose dogs at 1 ml per 10 lbs. So, a 60 lb dog would receive 6 ml to deworm. Pyrantel pamoate is sold OTC as Nemex, and Nemex II for dogs. It is a lower concentration than strongid, so the dose is higher.
Strongid only treats roundworms and hookworms in dogs, but not whipworms, tapeworms, giardia or coccidia. Please make sure you are treating him with the correct medication by having a stool sample examined by a veterinarian.
