My 1 1/2 yr old poodle developed a lump on his thiegh. The lump seemed to be getting very sore and red, and seemed to be getting bigger. After the dog wore a cone for two weeks the lump seems lighter in color and smaller and and harder. The hair has not grown back over it yet. The dog has infinite energy and eats well. He is actually putting weight on, an plays constantly. Is a biopsy in order, or should I give it more time?
Optional Information: Age: 1; Male; Breed: Poodle Already Tried: I was told to apply a med that I had used in his ears previously Ani...something. the lump seems flat now, much drier, and smaller, but it is still there... If I take the cone off, he immediately starts licking and biting at it... making it swell again
HiCustomer
While I think it's good that the Animax was helping the lump, at this point I think it's a good idea to have it biopsied.
It could be something minor like a sebaceous cyst, but because it keeps coming back, it could be some other kind of growth.
Your dog is very young, so I doubt that it's anything too serious (cancers are generally 'old dog' problems), but it is irritating your dog, so having the vet take another look at is is absolutely the way to go.
I hope this helps.
