My dog's skin is always irritated, sheds like crazy and has dandruff. he has had many tratments, allergy tests but nothing seems to work. he is a beagle and I live in Puerto Rico. I dont't know what else to do! Please help
Age: 5; Male; Breed: Beagle Already Tried: The lastest medication he was on I think was called Atarax. His food was changed to Royal Canine CC High protein because the allergy test results came back that he was allergic to lamb, rice, fish mixes, shell fish, moths, mosquitoes sweet potatoes etc etc We have used Dermalone, the Virbac shampoos, creams sprays (genesis). We also tried Douxo shampoo and calming gel plus many products taht I couldn't possibly remember. I ordered 2 days ago a product advertised on the internet called skin and coat tonic and went yesterday to a holistic pet store and bought the food brand Origin (it is completely made of fish)probably big mistake, because the lady told me allergy tests were not reliable. I also bought Clora-Care spary from Nature's Farmacy and a shampoo that I haven't tried yet called Isle of Dogs #12 made out of Evening Primrose Oil. The shedding is constant and the red spots come and go in the underpart of his legs. What itches him the most is his back and he tends to lick his paws a lot. I am desperate. He sleeps with me and when the condition is really bad he has this bad smell. I bathe him and it comes back within 5 or 6 days. He is also an indoor dog and gets a walk once a day for about 30 mts. The Comprehensive Food Allergy Screen tests for sensitivity to 31 major food ingredients
commonly found in commercial pet foods. The results indicate whether the animal has
identifiable levels of IgE antibodies to antigens in these foods. Whether the presence of
these antibodies contributes to the expression of clinical symptoms is not certain,
however it may be prudent to consider a change in diet.
The food allergy screen conducted on your pet shows that this animal exhibited
sensitivity to the following ingredients:

The best remedy for food sensitivity is avoidance. Bio-Medical Services works closely

Thank you for the additional information.
It looks like you are probably doing a good job with the food - if this is all he is getting to eat. I would avoid anything on the allergy list though. And be sure that you are very diligent in keeping his diet very restricted to just those things he is not allergic to for at least 4 months. It takes this long to get the other things out of their system. Unfortunately he is also allergic to some things that you cannot eliminate his exposure to. Things like dust mites, molds, and tree pollens and weeds he will have to be on medication for his entire life to control the allergic reaction. You can have the vet order you some desensitization shots prepared especially for him and his particular allergies - which can help. Short of that you are going to probably have to keep him on a constant regimine of antihistimines and steroids. The antihistamines normally have few side effects and work best if the dog is kept on them all of the time. They do better at preventing reactions than treating them. The steroids can have some adverse reactions if used in high doses over long periods of time. So these you want to use periodically for outbreaks in the lowest dosagest that work. It is usually best to keep these on hand from your vet so that you can give them as soon as you are noticing a very itchy day - not wait until the dog is in full blown reaction phase. This approach can actually lead to less medication at lower doses. I hope that you are able to resolve your dogs issues - or at least keep them under control. This is what the majority of allergy dogs end up being is managed and kept under control to keep the dog comfortable - this is often the best you can hope for.
