Customer Question

My 3 year old daschund just started twitching his back right leg. It jerks back and outward just like a charging bull. He is so upset he can't calm down.

Optional Information:
Age: 3; Male; Breed: DACHSUND

Already Tried:
We have tried massaging his hind legs because they have now both started doing it. We are trying to keep him calm because he gets up and starts running when it happens and now it is happening while he tries to run.

Hello,
I am sorry to hear about your doxie.
As you would imagine, it would be very difficult for me to know what is going on specifically. A few things we need to consider.
Doxie's are predisposed to back issues which can cause problems with the hind limbs. However, it would usually not present the way you are describing. A popping knee cap or medial patellar luxation is common for small breeds can manifest as intermittent jerking because they are trying to get the knee cap back into position. Either way, if he seems painful or disturbed by the problem, we really need to get him examined so we can differentiate one problem from the other and get some appropriate medication to get him comfortable.
There could also be any other type of soft tissue injury that is making him uncomfortable.
Better to have him checked out so we can determine where the primary problem is located.
Good Luck
Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
