Customer Question

howling dog + harmonica = pain or pleasure?

Optional Information:
Age: 2; Female; Breed: Beagle / Pointer

Already Tried:
I'm just curious. She seems to like it, as she has the look on her face when she is happy and curious. She wags her tail as she sings along. I'm afraid that I'm misinterpreting the signals, and curious if the sound is actually hurting her ears.

I think pure pleasure. Beagles love to howl and she is just joining in making music with you. Loads of dogs will howl and sing along with the piano, harmonica and other musical instruments. Some dogs will even go over the piano for example and play it with their paws while howling along. The only pain is probably for your neighbors.

Here is a clip of another dog howling with a harmonica. You can see that he is alert and enthusiastic about howling along. His tail is wagging and his ears are up as a sign of excitement. If he were exhibiting pain, he would likely move away from the harmonica and keep his ears and tail quite low.

Keep having fun with your musical friend!
