HiCustomer

From Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook:

"Cefuroxime axetil (Ceftin) is a highly effective, broad-spectrum antibiotic that works against bacteria that cause a wide range of common problems.
This drug is especially beneficial for skin, ear and lung infections. It can help cure pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis and cystitis.
Ceftin belongs to a class of medicines called cephalosporins, which were originally discovered in one of the world's most unlikely locations. A fungus found close to a sewer outlet along the coast of Sardinia turned out to cure a number of nasty infections. From this chance observation many extraordinary antibiotics have been developed."

That being said....ear infections with dogs are generally treated with TOPICAL antibiotics, meaning ones that you actually rub directly into the ear. Since the Cefuroxime axetil is an oral antibiotic, it won't do any good for your pet's ear infection.

What your pup needs is an ear swab cytology (to make sure whether you're dealing with a bacterial infection or an overgrowth of yeast) and topical medication from your regular vet.

I hope this helps.

It won't harm him if it's the proper dosage...but it won't do him any good either.

That won't do any good either.

If the infection is bacterial your pup needs something like Otomax or Mometamax.

If the problem is yeast, they need something like Animax.
