My dog ate 2 candy canes. Will she be ok? Is there anything we should do or watch for?

HiCustomer Can you answer a couple questions for me? 1) How much does your little one weigh about? 2) Were these sugar free candy canes? Dr. Benge
She weighs about 25 pounds I think.
They were not sugar free.
Two candy canes for a girl her size shouldn't be a problem for her. The most serious scenario for her might be a little gastrointestinal upset, and I think that is not too likely. Unless she has a sensitive stomach to begin with. If she starts to have diarrhea or nausea, then I'd pull up food and water for about 7 hours and then reintroduce them. But this again would surprise me greatly. My reasoning behind asking if the candy canes were sugar free is that one of the ingredients in some of these products is xylitol and this can cause real severe low blood glucose events in dogs and cats that eat them. Since the offending candy canes were not sugar free, she'll more than likely just have a little sugar high here this new year's eve! I hope you and your little one can have a happy new years knowing she'll be ok! Dr. Bruce
