can dogs get herpes from humans

Customer Question

can dogs get herpes from humans

While both dogs and humans can get a herpes virus in each case the disease is a different one. The diseases are related, ie in the herpes family, but are specially adapted to only the one type of host.

They are called by the same 'short' name of herpes, which can be confusing, but are not quite the same thing. So your dog can't get your herpes virus and you can't get the one the dogs get.

Hope this helps you!

Sorry for the delay the question got closed last night some how.

Herpes virus as a virial infection has to be fought off by your dog's immune system.

Most adult dogs do get over it. The real problems are when newborn pups catch it as they cannot fight it off as well.
