wHY DOES MY DOG STUMBLE AND FALL AFTER A FEW STEPS

Resolved Question:

I just noticed that my 7yr. old Sheltie stumbles and falls when trying to walk. There are no signs of injury or bleeding.

Hello,

Your dog may be exhibiting symptoms of a neurological condition called Vestibular Disease, which causes dizziness, stumbling and walking as if she's drunk.

Symptoms of antifreeze poisoning may be similar, so make sure your dog could not have gotten into this toxic substance, outside or in your garage.

Another cause of stumbling may be an inner ear infection, as this also adversely affects equilibrium.

Another possibility may be Wobbler Syndrome.

It would be a good idea to have your dog evaluated by the vet, in person, ASAP, and once a diagnosis is made, she will be prescribed the most appropriate treatment.

I hope all will be well!
