how long after a dog starts to push should the first puppy be produced

bitch chihuahua 5yrs old, first litter, started labor around 7:45 am

Hi,

After active labor begins, the first pup should seen witin about two hours. Since this is her first litter, you will want to contact your vet to see if she needs to come in. Some dogs take a little longer, however, with small breeds like Chihuahuas an injection may be needed to aid with labor. You can read more here: http://www.nhahonline.com/pediatrics.htm -Robyn
