My Boxer dog gets stung / bites by fire ants inside the under side of her feet . The entire leg is shaking , and she can not stand on the foot affected for quit awhile. What is the best thing I can do for her. Apply ice or heat ?, and what about benadryl liquid.
Optional Information: Age: 7; Female; Breed: BOXERAlready Tried: FOOT DIPPED IN ICE WATER
Hi-You can definitely try benadryl liquid or benadryl tablets or capsules (25 mg and 50 mg). She can have 1-2 mg per pound of body weight (if she weighs 50 lbs she can have 50-100 mg). This will help with itching and swelling and any other allergic responses she might be having. If she still seems like she might have pain, you can try giving her aspirin, 5mg per pound. Do not use any other pain killers or anti-inflammatories unless prescribed by your vet. Tylenol, motrin, ibuprofen, etcetera are toxic to dogs.A cool washcloth may also make her feel better.I hope this helps!-Erin
