What do black gums mean on a dog

Resolved Question:

In checking my black lab over, I noticed her gums are black, not pink. Should I be concerned & what does this indicate?

It is probably just a pigment coloring the gums same as her lips are dark.
This picture shows a dog with pink gums
This one (in addition to dental disease) shows a dog with black spots on the gums
and this dog has black gums
you can see his teeth are nice and white though!
Some dogs even have 'liver' (a brownish color) or gray colored gums if they are chocolate or dilute colored.
If his gums used to be pink and are now black I'd be concerned about dental infection.
Hope this helps you!
