Customer Question

Our Cavelier King Charles Spaniel was active and peppy yesterday morning. When we returned home last night - she had thrown up mucus and grass. She also had more than the usual stools. They were progessive from very hard to soft and grainy and bloody looking. She would not eat or drink last night. The same for today. We just saw that she had black diahrea. One spot very runny - the other a little harder but full of grass. We have managed to get her to lick on some ice cubes today. We also coaxed a little scrambled egg into her. What can we do before the Vet opens tomorrow morning?

Optional Information:
Age: 4; Female; Breed: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

ice cubes and little scambled egg

Hello,

This sounds like your baby has some colitis. Which can be caused by a Viral , parasitic, or bacterial infection in the colon. At this point you will want to pick up all the food for the next 12 hours. You can give some Plain Pedialyte along with the ice and water. For the vomiting and diarrhea please give some Pepto Bismol at 1 teaspoon full per 5 pounds of body weight every 6 hours for 2 doses. This should stop the Vomiting and diarrhea. Make sure to keep the fluids going in. Please follow up with your Vet. in the AM. If your baby should get worse please see the ER Vet for supportive care. Joan
