No, you cannot use permethrin cream, 5% on dogs to treat for mites. The two types of mites that generally tend to affect dogs are demodex mites and scabies mites. They are not visible to the naked eye, and are diagnosed with a test called a skin-scraping which is done by your veterinarian. The vet will then be able to see the mites under the microscope. Depending on which type of mite is present, the vet will then prescribe the appropriate medication to clear it up.
