Hello, there are few reasons why a dog could die after or during birth. Dogs can have a huge drop in calcium levels which will cause them to go into seizures, vomit, shake, fever, lethargy etc. If this is not treated then they can die from this as the body will just shut down. They can also have complications with the birth as well. They may have ruptured part of their uterus and have bleeding that is not known or controlled and they can die form shock or loss of blood. They can also have a huge drop in blood sugar as well that can make them go into an almost diabetic coma which will eventually kill them if not treated. They can also have other disease or parasites that can cause issues as well. Herpes could cause death of the pups and mom. Other internal parasites could cause a drop in blood platelets which would make the mom anemic and have a hard time during birth. If really anemic death can result as well. There are a number of things that can go wrong and the only way to know for sure is to have the body necropsy to find out what happened. Your vet would be able to do this for you if you need to. Please be sure to let me know if you need anything else.
