HiCustomer

Tails are normally docked when puppies are 3-4 days old. At this age, there is usually an office visit charge $25-75 depending on where you live and my vet then charges $10 per puppy to dock tails and remove dewclaws. Vet charges vary widely so you will need to check with your vet on his charges.

If it is not done when they are puppies, it is then considered an amputation and requires anesthesia. This may require bloodwork before surgery which would need to be paid for. You would also need to find a vet willing to do the surgery. Many will not dock a tail when a dog is not a newborn unless there has been a tail injury. My vet recently charged $400 for a tail amputation, but again, each vet has different charges, some less and some more.

European dogs are no longer having their tails docked, so an undocked tail is becoming more popular.

I hope this information is helpful to you.
