floppy part of dogs ear swollen like a balloon, what

,The floppy part of my dogs ear is swollen looks like someone blew it up like a balloon, when looking inside ear, also swollen, a brown crusty material is there. I checked other ear llooks like the cartilage is also swollen with brown creamy, sort of crusty material . His ;eft ear sticks out away from his head. I gave him a predisone and put some hydrocortisone cream on it and washed the inside out with a special wash and put some tresadern in the ears. what could be causing this and what should i do

Hi Greentiger,

What you are describing is a hematoma. This occurs frequently in dogs with floppy ears and usually is caused by excessive scratching. If left untreated, the body will generally absorb the fluid between the ears, but this can result in a cauliflower ear appearance. Your Vet will lance it, drain the fluid and bandage the ear.
