Pit Bull, or to be exact, American Pit Bull Terrier is the breed. What you are asking about are apparently different blood lines. Pits are no more mean than another type of dog unless antagonized and given incorrect, and usually against the law, types of training and handling. That is not something that is passed down by bloodline. It is caused by improper handling of the dog. The people who go out of their way to make this, or any other type of dog mean and aggressive are taking part in animal abuse. Its is, after all, the dog who will eventully suffer for it. The dog will be put down and the owner will very possibly go to jail because a dog handled in this manner, will reach a point where even the owner cannot control him/her. If you are in the market for a Pit, and if you care about the safety of all family members, I'd suggest you seek out a responsible and reputable breeder who has a reputation for raising a good bloodline of dogs. They are loyal and protective, all by themselves when they are treated properly by their owners. They don't need any extra training or provocation to inspire them to "do their job". The degree to which any dog or any breed will be loyal and protective of his owner and his owners belongings is directly related to his treatment. Not to his genetics and not to any efforts to make him a dog that will end up dead, whether it's being shot by the police or a neighbor or being euthanized because some irresponsible owner has forced him into an aggressive situation. If you have questions about the proper raising and hanling of a Pit, or any dog, just let us know.
