Hi Lilkim,

Each dog food has a different nutritional value. Therefore, what may be the right amount for a high quality food, may be too little for a food with less nutritional value. For this reason you should follow the guidelines provided on the dog food package. For instance, for a cheaper dog food containing lots of fillers such as corn, it may take 5-6 cups of food a day for a 100 pound dog, but with a high quality dog food with meat as the first 3 ingredients, it will only take 3-4 cups for a 100 pound dog.

A good rule of thumb for an adult dog is to put the food down and if there is still food left after 10-15 minutes, take it up.

Hope this helps.
