why does my dog smell of sweaty feet

Customer Question

My dog has just recently started to smell quite badly of sweaty feet. I thought it was maybe he rolled in something but he's been washed and the smell is still there?

Hi Karinc,

It's possible your dog has developed a skin infection called yeast dermatitis. This frequently will cause a dog to smell musty even after they have been bathed. Yeast dermatitis is frequently seen when a dog has allergies.

Yeast typically shows as a greasy area that has a sweet musty odor. Sometimes the skin can become inflamed, darker and thickened due to itching. Yeast likes areas such as between toes, armpits and ears. Selsun Blue Shampoo can help with Yeast dermatitis. When shampooing, lather and leave on 15 minutes before rinsing. The shampoo is not meant to be a cure, just a relief until your pet can see a Vet.

Hope this helps.
