can you give a dog unisom

Customer Question

I work 3rd shift and need my hyperactive doggie to sleep during the day with me. Is it okay to give her unisom to help her sleep?

The answer to this actually depends on the ingredient and type of unisom you are wanting to use. There are two types one that contains diphenhydramine which is benedryl and is safe depending on the weight of your dog and the other contains doxylamine succinate which is not recommended for use in dogs.

If you want to try benedryl to help her quiet down the dosage is 1mg per pound. The amount of benedryl in the unisom may exceed the recommended dosage.

Thank you
