Where is the sore located?

Reply to Nancy Holmes's Post: The sore is on his leg. It is round. It has a black circle where it seems like it started to heal. He is almost 12 years old and seems to be doing OK. Not real active as he has hip dysplasia but I walk him a several short mini walks each day. He has had this for several months.

This might be a pressure sore or if he licks it a lick sore.
Sometimes dogs will do this if there is joint pain or pressure from a joint can cause a sore to form.
Softer bedding sometimes works.
Pain meds can help.
Using neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment on the spot can help.
If nothing works to clear it up then you should see the vet as in dogs, as in people, a sore that won't heal should be checked with a medical professional to make sure it isn't cancer or an infection that needs special meds to take care of it.
Hope this helps you!
