my dog looks like hes dying the vet was no help

Customer Question

my dog has some kind of an eye infection, his eyes aren't watering and it has a yellow puss and they are swollen, we took him to the vet(1 yr old shih tzu) where they gave us eye drops to help him out. He is not eating but once every couple of days and he is vomiting and is very weak is there something else i could do?

Your vet didn't run bloodwork or offer any further treatment or diagnostics?

It sounds like his eyes are very painful.
See if he will eat if you hand feed him so he does not have to lower his head.
I would call the vet and ask about finding a veterinary opthamologist in your area to help you with the eye problem.
If your dog was not vomiting and was still eating when you saw your vet you should call and tell them that there has been a negative change in your dogs health since he was seen and that the eye medication does not seem to be clearing up the eye problem.
It could be the nausea etc is a side effect of the medication and that your dog is not tolerating it well.
If your dog did have these symptoms when you saw your vet and the vet did nothing about them then in my opinion now is a good time to see a different veterinarian with your pet in hopes of getting better help. Not all veterinarians are equal in their abilities to diagnose and suggest appropriate treatments so it may be a different vet can give you more help than the previous one did.
You have two problems to tackle - the eye infection and the vomiting and the vet should address both. If your dog is dehydrated it may need to be given fluids and again a vet is best suited to help your pet in that way.
I hope this helps!

Reply to Dr. Vamvakias's Post: nope, no help what so ever no blood work, no diagnostics just some eye drops and a 200 dollar bill.

What are the eyedrops? When are you seeing the vomiting?
