Urinary and/or bladder infection in older female dog

Customer Question

our neighbors dog who adopted the family as a stray -female-very skidish-older (12?) -fixed seem to have a urinary tract infection or bladder infection. Constant trying to urinate - has weight loss. Does not let you close - is eating - any ideas on alternative way to put something in food to hopefully cure. Vet is not an option as she does not let you get close. Sweet and still puppy like. Please help. I am currently unemployed as is my husband but have know this dog since less than a year old -will send what I can. put down $20 dollars because don’t know what cure will cost. Rita Bracco   [email protected] I really appreciate this help!

Unfortunately there's nothing that can be put on the food that will
knock back an infection if its that bad she has to urinate constantly.
There probably is much more going on with her than just that because of
your indication of weight loss...possibly kidney failure. A vet visit
is needed to make this dog more comfortable to establish if it is just
a UTI or something more. I would discuss with your vet about possible
payments or trying to go as conservative as possible because of the
circumstances.Good luck and thank you for trying to help this pup.

Reply to ZooCVT's Post: What about any kind of alternative cures. Sulfur additions - any kind of NATURAL antibiotic to add to water or food.   Olive leaf extract and oregano oil in humans but don't know if harmful to dogs. Seems to be in no pain just uncomfortable as anyone who has had one of these infections knows. I would appreciate your help

I know, from personal experience that a bladder infection can be very
painful and taking into consideration that she also has weighloss to go
along with that I would take that as a sign of being fairly
uncomfortable. WHat you can do is make sure she continues to flush her
kidney by watering down her food a bit so she takes in more fluids. I
would try feeding her a bland diet like boiled hamburger and white rice
to get her to eat more. Some think canberry juice helps like with
humans but this can backfire on you and create bladder stones being
you're not sure if she already may have crystals in her urine so I
would stay away from that.

Reply to ZooCVT's Post: I can't tell you how much I appreciate your response for none or a price. I am putting you into my favorites. Have pet birds that I am very expert on thier care but if I ever have any questions will certainly keep you in mind. Also if I could give more money I certainly would.
